Eight days later Jesus’ parents did for him what the Law of Moses commands. And they named him Jesus, just as the angel had told Mary when he promised she would have a baby.

The time came for Mary and Joesph to do what the Law of Moses says a mother is supposed to do after her baby is born. They took Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem and presented him to the Lord, just as the Law of the Lord says, “Each first-born boy belongs to the Lord.” The Law of the Lord also says that parents have to offer a sacrifice , giving at least a pair of doves or two young pigeons. So that is what Mary and Joseph did.

  2. I like your Christmas countdown! Very nicely done. Today I am wondering now, if the Law of the Lord is STILL followed in Jerusalem? Or if this is something that the Jews still do? (placing a sacrifice in the temple for the first born boy?) I’m going to have to ask my Jewish friend about this! I know the Christians don’t do this… doesn’t really make SENSE that the Jews would either – since they don’t accept Jesus as our savior… but I don’t entirely understand it all!
